As at 30 January, there have been 15 Australian workers killed at work in 2020.
Fifteen people that didn't make it home. From the WHS side, I ask myself, Why this still happening?
1. Either we don't do the risk assessment properly because we need to get the job done and they don't pay the bills.
2. Or we fail to see the hazards because we see them every day, so it looks normal, and so nothing changes until something happens.
3. Workplace culture hasn't changed, or people minds towards safety are still the same as they were when I was just a boy.
I don't have the answer. I think culture has something to do with it. The good ole Aussie way she will right mate until something happens.
So let's make the rest of the year NO more workplace incidents and don't become at statistic lookout for your workmates. Stand back and look for the hazards.
